Duties:

     In the Town of Wells the Board of Assessment Review is a three member board, appointed by the Town Board to a five year term.  Appointments are staggered.

 

  • The board is responsible for holding a public hearing once a year on Grievance Day to hear complaints and requests for reduction of assessments on individual property owner's parcels of land.  Grievance Day is scheduled in May.
  • The board renders decisions following the presentation of the individual requesting same.  The board has the authority, if the claim is justifiable, to reduce the assessment of the parcel of land.

Notice: 2010 Grievance Day

     The Board of Assessment Review will meet on Thursday, May 27, 2010, 5-7 p.m. at the Wells Community Hall to hear complaints in relation to assessments on the application of anyone believing themselves to be aggrieved.

     Complaint forms are available at the Assessor's and Town Clerk's Office and can be accessed on line by clicking: http://www.orps.state.ny.us/pamphlet/complain/howtofile/

 

    The Board of Assessment Review, according to Law, can leave your assessment as is or reduce it.  For futher information contact Jim Abbott, Assessor
