The Water Operator in responsible charge is the person that makes decisions about the daily operations of the system that will directly impact the quality and/or quantity of the drinking water. He/she must be certified by the state Department of Health.
The Water Operator is subject to call back in emergencies and serves in on-call duty.
- Operates and maintains all town-owned Water Treatment facilities.
- Monitors and maintains chemical levels in the water in compliance with State and Federal Regulations.
- Handles a variety of chemicals on a daily basis.
- Prepares records, logs and reports.
- Collects water samples for compliance with a variety of water quality standards in accordance to the Safe Drinking Water Act.
- Transports/handles hazardous chemicals.
- Starts/stops well operation as needed.
- Monitors safe and efficient operation of equipment.
- Calculates water flows.
- Routinely cleans and maintains equipment.
- Knows the Methods and Procedures of water system operation.
- Knows the rules and regulations pertaining to water process and control.
- Is knowledgeable in the work and care of work-related tools/equipment.
- Knows how to apply the principals of mechanics in regards to equipment, machines and devices used in water systems.
- Performs physically demanding work.
January 1 through April 3
Monday - Friday

Monday - Thursday
6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
October 31 through December 31
Monday - Friday
6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
