Departments
The Tax Collector collects taxes January 1 to April 1 each year. Individuals who wish to pay his/her taxes in person may call 588-3747 or email taxcollector@townofwells.org to schedule an appointment.
Individuals paying taxes by mail will be returned a receipt if one is requested.
During the remainder of the year, taxes are collected by the Hamilton County Treasurer's Office, PO Box 206, Lake Pleasant, NY, 12108. Ph. 518-548-7911.
The monies raised by taxes are the fund on which the town operates. Taxes provide payment for the maintenance of roads, the fire department, the water district, salaries of employees and elected officials, and the operating costs of the town.
The Tax Collector is responsible for the collection of taxes, payment of the same to the Supervisor, receipts, maintenance of a daily cash book, etc.
